The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford Branch began its Really Big ReFURb in July 2026 – an incredibly exciting project to transform our outdated centre into a modern, welcoming space for animals in need. Our 45-year-old kennel blocks no longer met current welfare standards, so refurbishment was essential. This project is more than an upgrade; it’s about giving animals in need the future they deserve!

The ReFURb is a two-part transformation, starting with our kennel blocks, followed by our cattery. Our old kennels have now been demolished, out dogs are settled in a temporary location and our cats are enjoying a sound-proofed cattery.
The new kennels are designed to reduce noise and stress, prevent dogs from facing each other, improve safety, and provide more space for enrichment and one-to-one care, which should improve adoption rates allowing us to rehome even more unwanted, abandoned and neglected dogs in need.

Since July, we’ve reached major milestones (from demolition and groundwork to active building) and as of early February, the kennels foundations have been laid and the walls are going up!
This is a huge achievement, but we need support now more than ever. To donate or find out how you can get involved in this once-in-a-generation project, please visit:
