Pigment Paint and Pastel Making: The Old Mill
Join Edward and Lucy from Old Mill Arts as we explore and learn the foundations of making pigment, paint, and pastels.
In this workshop, we shall be exploring and learning the foundations of making pigment, paint and pastels. We will be using foraged goodies such as stones, earth, clay, iron and shells that can be found locally or elsewhere in the UK, as well as looking at bought sustainable pigments.
There shall then be a chance to take part in the processes of turning stones into a pigment and then into a watercolour. There shall be opportunities to try out different types of stones, rocks and clays to see how each one is different in consistency and potential colour.
A new addition to this workshop is the making of earth pastels, which we will make from the stones and clays ground during the workshop.
Throughout the day, you will be able to try out these freshly created paints and see the colours of place appearing in front of you. Depending on how much is found and made during the day, course participants will be able to go home with a selection of paints and pastels to further experiment with.
