Home-Start Kirklees
For the last 25 years, Home-Start Kirklees has worked across our communities to provide support for families with young children who are experiencing difficulties. These difficulties can be anything from supporting families who are lonely and isolated, families with multiple children under 5 or families finding it hard to manage children’s behavioural difficulties. Their support is bespoken to the family they are supporting.
Parenting or caring can be one of the hardest roles anyone can undertake. Along with the many rewards that children bring, parenting can also be lonely, mentally and physically exhausting, and overwhelming. All parents struggle at one time or another.
Their main offer is that they recruit and train volunteers to offer practical and emotional support for families who are struggling to cope with family life for a variety of different reasons. Their volunteers visit they family in their homes for 2-3 hours a week and give non-judgmental, compassionate and confidential support to help parents gain confidence and provide the tools and support needed to ensure families achieve positive outcomes.
As well as this they also run a young parents service, isolation and loneliness groups and a school readiness programme.
