The Shops
Our Flagship store is based at East Leeds Household Waste Sorting Site in Seacroft and opened in 2011. Our second and busiest shop, at the Kirkstall Road Waste Recycling Site, Leeds, opened in 2017.
In 2022 we opened our third shop Revive Kirklees in Huddersfield City Centre, next to the bus station. Then in 2023 we opened our Superstore Pass-It-on-With Revive in Batley Commercial Street, which has a dedicated furniture department downstairs.
In August 2024 we opened our Leeds Superstore in Hunslet at Hunslet Green Retail Park, LS10, which has a huge shop floor selling clothing and textiles, electricals, Bric a Brac, books, cd, DVDs, and toys.
The Leeds stores operate 362 days a year, we only close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.Our working hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm.The Kirkstall shop is open from 10am-5.30pm, with Seacroft having seasonal hours – April to October 9.00am to 5.30pm, November to March 9.00am to 3.30pm. The new Hunslet Shop is open from10am-5.30pm.
The Store in Huddersfield is open 10am-5pm Monday – Saturday, and the Batley Store is open from 9am-4.30pm -Monday- Saturday.
There is a donation point for members of the public to donate unwanted items that are fit for reuse, a warehouse area to store unsorted donations and a large shop where the items are put out for sale. All items sold at Revive Reuse have been donated and these include furniture, clothing and textiles, bric a brac, electricals, household goods, toys, books, records, CDs/DVDs and videos.
Our team consists of paid employees and volunteers, supported by board of trustees that supports them and works closely with the Retail Manager. The team currently consists of around 65 paid full and part-time staff and 36 volunteers across the four sites.
We have good working relationships with various colleges and universities and regularly provide work placements for their students, some of whom have learning difficulties. As a result of this partnership working, Revive Leeds won the Furniture Re-Use Network award for Innovation in 2017 for work done with Business Studies students from Huddersfield University. We were also runners up in the Leeds City Council award for Partner of the Year. In 2021 we were awarded the SEYH Environmental Award.
Does it Work?
Yes. Leeds City Council and Kirklees Council are already committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill to zero. As a result of our partnerships with them, between our stores, we help to intercept up to 18 tonnes of re-usable items each week in Leeds and approximately 5 tonnes in Kirklees.
For example, in the Year April 2023-March 2024 we processed 872645 items of clothing and textiles and PAT tested 10588 electrical items. This significantly reduces carbon emissions as items are re-used (saving the carbon cost of making new items). Making these items available at low prices enables our local community to afford furniture or electrical items and even clothing that might otherwise have been out of reach without getting into debt. For example, According to Re-Use Network figures, nationally this saving could be as much as £335.3 million each year between the communities we all support. It also generates much needed funds in our case to help support the work of our two member Charities SLATE and SVP.
