Whether you’re soaking up the spring sunshine outside your favourite pub or picking up a take-out beverage to enjoy in your own back garden, we’ve tracked down some of the best places to grab a craft beer in Huddersfield.
Head of Steam
Huddersfield Train Station
You don’t need to be waiting for a train to stop in for a beverage at Head of Steam. Located in Huddersfield railway station, this Grade 1 listed bar spills out onto the iconic St George’s Square. Serving up craft beers from the likes of Little Valley and Welsh favourite Tiny Rebel, there’s plenty of outdoor seating to sit and watch the world go by – just make sure you don’t miss your train!
Arcade Beers

If you’re visiting the popular Arcade Coffee Shop whilst out and about in Hudds, it’s well worth popping into their neighbouring beer and wine shop, Arcade Beers. Specialising in craft beers and pale ale, Arcade has a huge selection of beverages from breweries such as Northern Monk and the Yorkshire-based Turning Point. And because they’re always updating their selection, you’re bound to pick up something new to try every time you visit.
The Grove

Packed with quirky décor that you’ll either love or loathe, The Grove is one of Huddersfield’s most unique pubs. Priding themselves on serving up a wide range of craft casks and kegs from the local area and beyond, they have a cosy garden that’s perfect for sipping on a beer in the sunshine.
The Parish
The Old Courthouse
Well-known for pairing good music with ever better beer, The Parish is hoping to go ahead with some of their iconic gigs later this summer. In the meantime, their beer garden will be open for outdoor drinking – with all booking fees going towards helping out local food banks. With a vast menu of drinks, you can expect to enjoy craft beers from favourites like Lervig and Magic Rock.
The Rat and Ratchet

Beer doesn’t get much fresher than this. The multi-award-winning Rat and Ratchet is home to the Yorkshire-based Rat Brewery, which operates underneath the pub itself. Serving up home-brewed beer as well as guest appearances from other craft breweries, this community pub has a minimum of 11 hand-pulled real ales on the go, including their esteemed White Rat, King Rat and Ossett Brewery’s famous Yorkshire Blonde.
The People’s Meeple
New Street
A relatively new face on Huddersfield’s high street, The People’s Meeple is a unique spot for enjoying a drink and a good old fashioned board game. With plenty of craft beers from local and international breweries to choose from, their selection of drinks almost rivals their choice of quirky games.
Kwas
Viaduct Street
Another perfect spot for picking up some takeaway beers, Kwas is an independent grocery specialising in local produce. As well as a fine selection of craft beers from West Yorkshire breweries Zapato and North Brewing Co., they also sell organic chemical-free wine and Huddersfield favourite, Castle Hill gin.
Bosun’s Brewery

A proper Yorkshire brewery, Huddersfield-based Bosun’s are all about hand-crafted real ales. Perfect for enjoying in your back garden with friends and family, their online bottle shop currently offers free delivery across West Yorkshire.
