Temporary Contemporary

Temporary Contemporary began as a partnership with Kirklees Council and the School of Art, Design and Architecture (now School of Arts and Humanities) at the University of Huddersfield to stimulate arts and cultural activities in vacant spaces in Huddersfield.

The project included programming creative and cultural activities in the Market Gallery in Queensgate Market, empty stalls within the market itself and utilising vacant retail units on the Piazza.

Working in partnership with Huddersfield BID, we intend to offer a variety of diverse opportunities for creatives across Huddersfield and Kirklees with the aim of animating the streets and buildings while supporting creative development and the visitor experience.

We understand that temporary access to space can help turn an idea into a reality, it can provide the test bed for innovation and that much needed freedom to develop, grow and experiment.

Kirklees Council – Arts & Creative Development Team

With “meanwhile spaces” in a number of locations in Huddersfield we are able to offer you some great opportunities from small stalls, pop-up units and vacant retail units of all shapes and sizes.

These are suitable for creative people and organisations at all stages of development who want to help bring culture and vibrancy to the high street.

We have various sized stalls within Queensgate Market and empty retail units on the Piazza, each with own facilities (kitchen & toilet) and include heating, power supply and lighting.
