Stay healthy in Huddersfield this New Year

We all like to start the New Year with good intentions and, even after a much lower key festive period than many of us are used to, a January detox can do us all the world of good. With lockdown restrictions considered, we’ve compiled a list of things in and around Huddersfield you can still enjoy whilst being good to yourself this New Year. Including healthy places to get food and drink, fantastic walks and inspirational ideas. So if you’re feeling guilty after overdoing the mince pies and you’re on a health kick this month, check it out.

*Restrictions are subject to change so please check with providers first if you are uncertain.

Active Huddersfield

As long as Kirklees remains in Tier 3 then you are still able to attend gyms and swimming pools, although organised indoor sport and classes are not permitted. Indoor disability sports, as well as sport for educational purposes and supervised sport and physical activity for under-18s are exceptions to the restrictions and can continue. Outdoor organised sport and exercise classes are allowed to continue, although the government advises that “higher-risk contact activity” should not take place, in line with social distancing. If you can navigate around these restrictions then Active Huddersfield are a fantastic source of inspiration, helping to keep people in Huddersfield aware and up to date with easy to keep fit and active.

Greenhead Park

Greenhead Park is one of Huddersfield’s largest parks. Opened in 1884, it remains a popular spot with locals and its events attract people from miles around. With clear pathways and beautifully landscaped scenery it is ideal for a winter stroll, jog or for somewhere to do outdoor exercise.

(not) Parkrun

With all Parkrun events currently suspended, (not)parkrun is an opportunity for parkrunners missing their regular fix to submit a 5k walk, jog, or run or 2k for junior parkrunners, on a route of your choosing, on a day and time of your choice. You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table. So whether you choose to follow the regular Greenhead Park course or get running elsewhere in the district (not)parkrun is a fantastic way to get out running in January and February.
