It is fast approaching the festive season and thoughts are turning to the long list of jobs to do in the run up to the big day. After almost 18 months of a topsy-turvey world things are gradually returning to a kind of normality including Christmas. It can be a stressful time and present buying can be top of the list of challenges. Crafty Praxis, Byram Arcade

Crafty Praxis is a fabulous Arts and Crafts Gallery located on the ground floor of the beautiful Victorian Byram Arcade. The artists and designers featured in the gallery are all selected for their unique designs and quality of craftsmanship and most are from the local area. Owner Katie Rayner says she is ‘passionate about crafts and want to celebrate the handmade and unique”, everything sold at Crafty Praxis is either handmade or designed by the UK based artist or designer. From art/photography, ceramics and glass, home ware, jewellery and more, you will find an array of wonderful gifts that will delight family and friends and the shop also has a fabulous range of Christmas decorations and cards.

 

In addition to beautiful items Katy also stocks a small selection of DIY craft kits, but it isn’t just about selling crafts. Katy also runs workshops, both in the local community and in the Byram Arcade, an ideal opportunity to create your own unique handmade gifts.

 

Crafty Praxis and the Byram Arcade host Art and Craft Fairs on the 2nd Sunday of every month featuring around 10 different artists and designers at each event. No two months are the same and each month features a great selection of art, jewellery, textiles, cards and more.

The Guild, Byram Arcade

If you are searching for a very special gift for a loved one, tucked away in Byram Arcade, you will find The Guild: where artisan jewellers Jacqueline and Benjamin have created a beautiful environment to design, create and display their unique creations. “At The Guild jewellers we personally carry out the whole development of your piece of Jewellery from initial design to finishing and polishing. We begin with a brief and ideas, work to develop specifications and hand make the finished piece.”

As well as their own beautiful creations, this local independent bespoke jeweller, also exhibit mixed media pieces including pottery and paintings created by local artists and craftsmen.

The AC Gallery, Byram Street

If you are looking for a special piece of art either as a gift to yourself or a loved one, you do not need to travel far. Take a visit to the wonderful family business that is AC Gallery. A business that originally started life in 1950 as the ‘George Fox Art Shop’ is now in the third generation of the same family, selling framed prints and originals alongside an expert picture framing service. The gallery features local artists including Peter Brook, the ‘Pennine Landscape Painter’ and Roger Davies the much loved Brighouse based singer/songwriter who is now creating a stir in the art world, his pictures inspired by his songs and his experiences as a working musician.

The Piazza Home Made Christmas Craft Fair, Piazza Shopping Centre – 27th November 2021 – 10am -4pm

Yorkshire crafty family business founded in 2018, with an ethos that ‘ life is better when you’re creative’, Crafty Baggage are hosting the Piazza Home Made Christmas Craft Fair on 27th November . There will be a selection of approximately 30 local makers, crafters and artists displaying and selling their goods making it a fabulous opportunity to spend a day in Huddersfield shopping for unique presents while at the same time supporting local makers.
