The award-winning Huddersfield Literature Festival has been a popular celebration of the written word since 2006. Every March, the Festival hosts around 150 performers over 10 days, with 50 events in around 20 venues across the town, including theatres, the Media Centre, libraries, bookshops and local bars and cafes.
The Festival retains its intimate, community feel with well-known authors mingling alongside new local talent showcasing the very best in books, authors, poetry and performance. The Festival prides itself in promoting as wide a range of literature as possible, including that produced by people from a variety of backgrounds. It is committed to proving opportunities for BAME and LGBT performers as well as those with disabilities. There are several subtitled events every year and many events are free or low cost.
Every year, the packed programme offers something new and something for everyone. From a free family day and children’s events, open mic nights, films, a literary afternoon tea and creative writing workshops.
